Compliance with the Principles and Recommendations of COPE, WAME, DORA, and Other Organisations
In its activities, the Editorial Board of the collection is guided by the principles and recommendations of leading international organisations in the field of publication ethics, academic integrity, open science, and research assessment.
1. COPE — Committee on Publication Ethics
The Editorial Board adheres to the following principles:
- transparency of procedures for submission, peer review, and publication of scholarly articles;
- impartiality, independence, and responsibility of editors and reviewers;
- compliance with academic integrity, including the prevention of plagiarism, falsification of results, fabrication of data, and duplicate publication;
- proper determination of authorship with a clear indication of each co-author’s contribution;
- availability of clear and open procedures for handling complaints, appeals, and other submissions related to publication ethics;
- application of a transparent procedure for article retraction, corrections, and publication of notices concerning identified errors.
2. WAME — World Association of Medical Editors
The Editorial Board supports the following principles:
- editorial independence, which provides for editorial decisions to be made without influence from sponsors, institutions, organisations, or commercial interests;
- mandatory disclosure of conflicts of interest by authors, reviewers, and members of the Editorial Board;
- ensuring objective, fair, competent, and timely peer review of submitted materials;
- transparency of information concerning sources of research funding, including grants, sponsorship, and other forms of financial support;
- support for early-career researchers and promotion of the publication activity of scholars at the initial stages of their academic careers.
3. DORA — San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment
The Editorial Board recognises the importance of:
- evaluating scholarly research not only by bibliometric indicators, such as impact factor, h-index, or other quantitative metrics, but primarily by quality, novelty, methodological soundness, and contribution to the development of science;
- recognising various types of research outputs, including datasets, software, algorithms, methodological materials, and other research products;
- supporting interdisciplinary research as a full and significant area of scholarly communication;
- encouraging open science practices, including the publication of preprints, open access to research data, software code, and other research materials.
4. ICMJE — International Committee of Medical Journal Editors
The Editorial Board supports the following principles:
- compliance with clear authorship criteria, according to which only a person who has made a substantial intellectual, scholarly, or practical contribution to the preparation of the research may be recognised as an author;
- ensuring ethical conduct of research, particularly when working with data, human participants, personal information, experimental materials, and other sensitive research objects;
- encouraging authors to ensure proper preservation, documentation, and, where possible, open provision of research data.
5. Other Contemporary Principles: Open Science, Plan S, FAIR Data
The Editorial Board supports the following principles:
- Open Access — promoting open access to research results and ensuring wider dissemination of scholarly knowledge;
- FAIR Data — adherence to principles under which research data should be findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable;
- Plan S — support for the policy of publishing research results in open journals, repositories, and other open scholarly platforms;
- ethical use of artificial intelligence — ensuring transparency, responsibility, and integrity in cases where artificial intelligence tools are used during the preparation, analysis, writing, or editing of scholarly materials.
