Urgency of the research. In today's conditions, distance learning has become the norm, not just one form of learning process. In this context, the educational environment has been transformed accordingly: in the cultural, and in management, and in pedagogical, and in the socio-communicative, etc. sense. Thanks to distance learning and more, the educational environment has formed signs of multiculturalism, turning them into a phenomenon. The transformation of the educational environment under the influence of many social and cultural challenges and global processes sets a precedent for the need to conduct a theoretical analysis of the phenomenon of multiculturalism in education.

Target setting. Prior to the beginning of COVID-19 pandemic and the involvement of quarantine measures around the world, distance learning was considered a form of artificial learning environment based on didactic principles, bulk software and global Internet connectivity. Today, distance education has become a panacea and a forced measure of reality at the same time. The question arises: what are the signs of the phenomenon of multicultural education and education in general in these conditions?

Actual scientific researches and issues analysis. The phenomenon of multicultural education is analyzed in the works of foreign and domestic scientists, among them: J. Banks, V. Gabdulkhakov, L. Goncharenko, O. Kotenko, M. Motsar, S. Romaniuk, T. Sinyova, L. Khomich, L. Sultanova, T. Shahraii and others. Relevance, opportunities, prospects, issues of using distance learning and creating an appropriate educational environment are considered in the works of teachers, philosophers, psychologists, researchers in the field of ICT and software, namely: O. Abakumova, O. Andreev, V. Bykov, I. Bloshchynskii, O. Kivliuk, T. Pylaeva, M. Smulson, Yu. Mashbyts, M. Zhaldak and others. Distance learning has been studied by foreign scientists since the 60s of the last century: A. Kayum, D. Keegan, L. Moller, J. B. Hutt, O. Zawacki-Richter, R. Narrison, J. L. Moore, S. E. Smaldino, O. Gryaznova and others.

The research objective. To conduct a theoretical analysis of the issue of multicultural educational environment in the conditions of distance learning, taking into account global, integration, transformation processes and national specifics.

The statement of basic material. Today’s challenges require the rethinking of role and importance of the phenomenon of the multicultural educational environment, which acquires conceptual forms, and the continuous development of digital information and communication technologies and their active use in education accordingly affect the forms, methods, means, importance of distance education and its prospects. The article considers educational theories of distance learning as a tool for the effective functioning of a multicultural educational environment.

Conclusions. Theoretical analysis of the phenomenon of multiculturalism of the educational environment in the context of distance learning allowed to conceptualize a number of provisions. First of all, the multicultural nature of the educational environment is a holistic phenomenon that integrates the diversity of different cultures, educational and pedagogical traditions and social experience. Secondly, multiculturalism is characterized by inclusion, as the perception of "divergent" in order to form the effective-desirable. Thirdly, in the current conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic and the introduced quarantine measures, the functioning of a multicultural educational environment in the context of distance learning is a difficult task given the communication stereotypes, digital inequality, individualization and value perception, standardization and universality of software products and etc.

Keywords: distance learning, educational environment, transformation, the phenomenon of multiculturalism, information society.
